The sportswear firm tried to generate a excitement around the $350 (223) trainers by simply posting a photo in its Facebook page.
"Got a sneaker game so hot a person lock your shoes to your ankles?" a caption read.
Referred to as the JS Roundhouse Mid making it in collaboration with the fashion designer Jeremy Scott,parajumpers jakke dame, the hightop shoe comes with an orange plastic cuff which goes around each ankle.
The photo has produced nearly 3,400 comments on the social network site with many complaining that the design is actually offensive to descendants of slaves.

However, other folks said there was nothing wrong with the shoes and that the issue had been broken out of proportion.
In the statement, Adidas said the actual shoe "is nothing more than your designer Jeremy Scott outrageous as well as take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery".
