Soldier statues to be unveiled
This Nov. 11, two sculptures representing the Royal Newfoundland Regiment are set to be unveiled at Conception Bay South Monument of Honour in Long Pond. These sculptures one depicting a classic male comrade in the Blue Puttees within the First World War in quiet repose, canada goose, and a currentday female soldier on patrol will mark the first time in additional than Eighty years that the bronze statue(s) is going to be dedicated in Newfoundland and Labrador to the famous Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
It is also the first time that a contemporary Royal Newfoundland Regiment soldier has been cast in bronze.
The Blue Puttee statue depicts an authentic First 500 soldier in hindsight years after the end of the war. He stands in quiet reflection on the loss of many of his friends and comrades he served with.
The other statue depicts a lady soldier from the Royal Newfoundland Regiment on patrol. She represents all of the Newfoundland and Labrador soldiers that are facing life or death situations in armed conflicts around the globe. This statue is exclusive in that it might be the very first female soldier to be depicted on active service to become dedicated throughout Canada, not just this province.
Newfoundland artist Morgan Macdonald was commissioned to sculpt and cast these statues the following in your own home. His previous work includes "The Rower" near Quidi Vidi Lake, "A Time" on George Street, and the replica Beaumont Hamel plaques at Bowring Park honouring Newfoundlanders who went missing in The Great War.
I'd the pleasure of visiting Morgan at his foundry while he was allowing the bronze statues for that monument in Conception Bay South, and discovered the fascinating procedure for bronze sculpting. I had been amazed and astounded in the process and also at Morgan's skill.
At that stage, when I visited, the fullsized type of a mans soldier had been made from metal and clay. The minute details within the sculpted clay were remarkable.
The model am eerily lifelike, I would haven't been surprised at all if it had turned its gaze on me and spoken. It had been a goosebump moment, without a doubt.
Morgan MacDonald was born in Corner Brook and now calculates of St. John's.
Throughout his youth, canada goose jacket, Morgan had been artistically inclined,www.america1063fm.com/2013/10/canada-goose-home-sverige/, and discovered his gift for sculpture in his early teens. He then became apprentice for 3 years under a European master sculptor and it has worked in Toronto at ArtCast, Canada's leading foundry.
Morgan has been featured in Espace sculpture magazine, parajumpers jackets canada, Canada's foremost publication on sculpture, plus many other publications and on radio stations.
You can meet him close up and private Nov. 11 as his pieces of art are unveiled so that as we pay our respects on Armistice Day 2010.
