At the beginning of the actual novel when Jonas's dad mentioned he was a Nurturer I felt that his job was to care for other folks, to hold a child with such love and respect that no person, or thing can understand. As I see the book I realized that will Jonas father could not really feel love,Parajumper, so therefore Jonas dad felt no adoration for his family unit, babies, and even Gabe. I often asked myself, how can someone not have any a sense love, or in Jonas father's case, any feeling of guilt or sadness? As I was reading, I felt concerned that no one really questioned where people travelled when they were introduced. A part that was complicated to me was if the Giver said "if you get away, if you get beyond, if you get to Somewhere else,parajumper, it will mean that the neighborhood has to bear the load themselves, of the memories you had been holding regarding them" (Lowry 155). Why is it that when Jonas leaves the community your memories will leave Jonas and be released into the local community? I wonder how the group will respond to every one of Jonas' memories, the pain, suffering, weather, colors and also happiness. I'm also wondering if the community will retain these memories or if they only carry them temporarily. Ultimately, throughout the book I had been reminded of the film Pleasantville, the tale of the agonizingly perfect blackandwhite world "corrupted" by the puzzled and horrified outsider.
