I?m always going to wear my heart on my sleeve always be candid and be this real person in an unreal world of fashion ? and that?s become my brand and what I?m standing for After twenty-seven years as the host of Fashion Television do you feel a sense of responsibility to Canadians to stay in the fashion industry I never like to let anybody down but I also think that?s not a good way to live your life ? to try and live up to others? expectations I examine on a daily basis sometimes on an hourly basis how valid what I?m doing is to myself I have a great love of people and that?s totally what keeps me in the business It?s been a great playground because it?s all about people and it?s all about self-expression and communication and identity and self-awareness But I would hope in the next decade or so that I could really push the parameters a little bit and really venture beyond the industry Regarding fashion uniforms and how some women stick to wearing say just black ? what was your fashion uniform and how would you tweak it over the years I still have a bit of a uniform I must admit We all want to play up what we think is our best feature and I like my legs I would say my uniform includes short skirts or skinny black jeggings pants or jeans I just love that look ? the long thin legs and whatever on top That in a sense became a uniform for me My best friend is a gorgeous stylish woman who is plus-sized and her uniform is an oversized white-collared shirt decorated with pins or scarves and it looks fabulous She tweaks it and changes the look up every day but it?s her basic uniform That said we do tend to get locked into certain images of ourselves and instead it may be nice to think outside our personal boxes not knowing where we?ll end up It?s all about confidence and feeling good whatever it takes Do you have any edits you?d make from a styling perspective on Canadian womenNo I mean the international borders really have dissipated in terms of the global fashion stage However Canadians by nature have been a little more conservative a little more reticent to bold new changes However I do see some really exciting stuff going on in terms of personal style and I?m impressed I wouldn?t want to look down my nose at anyone and say they should be doing something differently but one thing we should be doing together as a society is celebrating each other?s style and individuality more than we do Personal style is something that you really have to spend a lifetime cultivating and use as a tool to get to know yourself It?s an outward representation of who you are and we sometimes need the experts to help by giving us tips but people need to be careful not to put themselves in someone?s hands and say ?make me over baby?
